Review of Book Weight Watchers Weight Loss That Lasts

I have struggled with weight and the best solution all my life -- and i beleive this no-nonsense review of solid research was honest, straightforward and provided me with a solid foundation to build a life plan around.

Review of Book Weight Watchers Weight Loss That Lasts

Kudos to Weight Watchers and Dr. James Rippe for putting together a remarkable book that breaks down the science of weight loss and sheds light on all the ways we sabotage ourselves in our ignorance of what losing weight for good is really about. This is the only book out there that deals with maintenance, that pesky time after the initial weight loss that most fad diets and books in the market completely ignore or all but skim over. This book touches on some heavy myths that I recognized as I read. Ive bought into so many of these myths not knowing that I was setting myself up for failure. Fortunately, I found this book and although Im not following Weight Watchers as my lifestyle plan, I have used the information to arm myself. The book includes inspiring stories from Weight Watchers members as well as useful tips on everything from eating healthy while traveling to finding the best physical activity to incorporate into your new lifestyle. An excellent book.

Review of Book Weight Watchers Weight Loss That Lasts

I finally realized that reading just one book on health and fitness (dieting/maintaining) would never be enough for me. Unless I read again each month. So if you see multiple books on my list, dont take it the wrong way. I need to continually remind myself. But this is one of the most sensible and complete dieting books out there, with extremely sound advise, backed up by real science. Im so glad I bought it and read it.

Review of Book Weight Watchers Weight Loss That Lasts

Its time we stopped fooling ourselves. Weight loss is a lifetime struggle. Diets that focus on restricting food until we reach our magic goal weight will not work long term. Magical thinking will not work even in the short term.

The message of this book is that weight loss is a product of reducing caloric intake below caloric expenditure. It focuses on real science and hard data. I found it extremely helpful in overcoming psychological barriers to weight loss. It also helped me understand the importance of a life long commitment to weight loss and healthy living.

If you want real facts instead of advertising fluff, this book is for you.

Each chapter includes an explanation of a myth and the kernels of truth and valid research that led to its perpetuation. Of course, the underlying basis for the book is that the way to achieve lasting, healthy weight loss is to follow the Weight Watchers method, and Rippe includes personal triumph stories from followers of that program. Review
this title examines common misconceptions that can sabotage a weight-loss program. Going into greater scientific detail than Neoporent and Schlosberg in explaining diet myths, Rippe (medicine, Tufts Univ. Sch. Of Medicine) also incorporates many of the Weight Watchers(r) principles into his comments. (from the Diet/Fitness roundup by Susan Hagloch)
