Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | So many people say that this book isnt good by standards of diet books, but it isnt really a diet book, it is a self help book. It gives you the gidelines that you need to help you focus on overcoming food and losing weight. You cant go into it lightly. I think completely different about food than I did two weeks ago and I feel amazing. Good work Dr. Phil..
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | Getting Real means that you have to READ the book. I am one of the many people who have gone on and off the Atkins Diet. I still believe that Atkins works- i have lost a lot of weight but i dont seem to be able to stay on the diet for longer than six months. i have not been able to figure out why i cannot stay on a diet. Dr. Phil has helped me to realize that i have the will-power but not the staying-power because of something that is stopping me, something sub-conscious that i have to deal with before i can go on with my life. The eating program in THE Ultimate Weight Solution is also very fair- i say fair because so many of the diets seem to make you deprive yourself of something essential. Dr. Phil doesnt leave anything out really for me, but i cannot wait for his pocket food guide to come out so that i will have that as well. so, like Dr. Phil says, Get Real to get fit.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I dont have a weight problem, but I just had to read Dr. Phils new book, if only for the unintentional humor of it all. No doubt, hell be working the phrase 7 Keys into his TV show diatribes every two or three sentences, in between sneaking in not-too-subtle plugs for Self Matters over and over again. Make no mistake about it. Dr. Phil is out to make a buck. Its particularly bothersome that this book (and Dr. Phils diet products) are deliberately formulated to prey upon our diet-obsessed culture. And what is more astounding is Doctor Phils own particular physique, hardly what I would call buff or even close to slender. Doesnt this guy have any mirrors in his house I cant imagine who would buy into his diet plan with a photo of its author bulging out of his suit on the cover. Thanks a lot, Oprah, for unleashing this guy into the media. Just what we need. another person who lost the battle of the bulge, preaching to us about how to trim down. Oh, the irony of it...

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I would very much like to respond to Karla Antonios review as well as the reader from WI...first of all I think that it is very unhealthy for a person to say such mean spirited things about another person. Dr Phil is NOT FAT. He works out every day, eats well and he is not any fatter than most large men. He is 64 and weighs 240. That is not fat by any measure of the imagination. He even says that he is not the regular poster model for weight loss, would you rather a skinny man who has no idea what he is talking about or a guy who has to workout and eat right to stay healthy and understands that struggles you have to get fit or stay fit. As for the reader in WI, I am disappointed only because I believe that either the book was not read or that large parts of it were ignored. Dr. Phil understands perfectly that there is not a one size fits all diet which is why his book is not a diet book but a behavioral approach to changing the way you eat. He is not there to suggest that you need to eat a particular type of food at all times, instead you are given a wide variety and told to size down your portions. His food plan is not only sound it is endorsed by the American Heart Association (Dr. Eckel, Professor of Medecine and on the Council of Nutrition). Dr. Phil also worked closely with a highly experienced nutritionist, as well as several other doctors- as you can read about in his acknowledgements. Dr. Phil also takes into grave consideration people with medical problems that make it difficult for them to lose weight. There is an entire chapter dedicated to such people and charts to show you how to figure out the results for yourself (Chapter 11- When You Cant Lose Weight). I have been of Dr. Phils for years and have had the honor to see him in person and I can tell you that there is not a more genuine man in TV today. He Genuinely cares about the people that he advises. Buy this book because it is not like all the diet books and because he is not the usual svelte woman on the cover. He is real person- who wants to help you.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | This is the real deal folks. I probably have read just about every major diet book that was ever written but very few, if any, have been able to address the root causes as to why we are overweight much less how to overcome the obstacles that cause failure. This book has it all. however, one caveat to consider is that it should be read several times to gain the full benefit from its content. I recommend that you do all the exercises outlined in the book and keep a journal. I did and I learned a great deal about myself and what it is that keeps me from fully reaching my weight loss potential. Its inspirational, motivating and packed with information. I truly believe that if you follow Dr. Phils approach you cant possibly fail. I also liked the diet plan outlined in his book - its very simple to follow. Theres no weighing or measuring and very healthy. Ive finally found a practical, meaningful, no nonsense approach that makes sense. Thanks Dr. Phil.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | This is not just another weight loss book. Dr. Phil takes a holistic approach that gets to the heart of the conflict between our conscious desire to lose weight and our subconscious sabotage mechanisms that get in the way when we try to do so. I found his approach to be sound, sensible and doable. I just finished reading it and it feels like Ive lost weight already.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | While there have been a lot of books written on weight loss, how many of them actually work There are also tons of fad diets. How many work Dr. Phil has put together a complete program for weight loss that really works. It all boils down to 7 steps or Keys. Key 1 Right Thinking Many people are beaten before they even start due to negative or wrong thinking. People tell themselves like I cant lose weight, Nothing ever works for me, etc. You need to regain control over your thoughts and that is why Key no.1 is so important. Right thinking unlocks the door to self control and helps you get right with yourself from the inside out. Key 2 Healing Feelings This key helps you unlock the door to Emotional Control and teaches you how to break the cycle of overeating in response to emotional triggers and stress. Key 3 A No Fail Enviroment This key unlocks the door to External Control, the ability to shape, design, and manage your enviroment so that it is virtually impossible for you to fail at weight control. This key is amazing in that it will create immediate changes in how you act, think, live and feel. With this key you will make your life look different, feel different and be different. Key 4 Mastery Over Food And Impulse Eating With this key you will unlock the door to habit control. Here you will learn how to control and reshape your behavior, first by identifying why you persist in these bad habits, and second, by replacing them with actions design to weaken their hold on you. Key 5 High Response Cost, High Yield Nutrition This key unlocks the door to food control. an approach to nutritional balance that is nothing short of revolutionary, and amazingly powerful in its simplicity. You wont find counting calories or grams, no measuring, no memorizing exhaustive food lists or exchanges. With this key you will not only take the weight off but keep it off for a lifetime. Key 6 Intentional Exercise Most people hate to exercise and many who start typically quit. Thats the bad news. The good news is that most of us have been taught wrong about how to exercise for weight control. With the sixth key, you willunlock the door to Body Control, the power to keep pounds at bay with a maximum-results workout strategy that you can start slowly and continue at your own pace. You will learn specific motivational tools and discover how to make exercise a focus of your energies---a permanent fixture in your life. Key 7 Your Circle of Support With this key you will unlock the door to Social Control, with which you assemble a support circle of people who will encourage you and provide the accountability you need to achieve your goals. To reach your weight loss goals, you must surround yourself with a group of like-minded people who want you to di it too. This greatly enhances your success. These seven keys are designed to get you into an action mode and even more importantly, to keep you going, even when you dont feel like doing so---and that is why this system works while other programs have failed. With The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution you will learn new behaviors while eradicating yourself of common, fattening behaviors. The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution is the result of Dr. Phils thirty years of working with overweight patients and figuring out what really works---and it does. Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I was so disappointed when I read Dr. Phils book. Were he a diet book reader, he would have known that everything in his book has been already covered many times in other diet books. His entire message boils down to eat healthfully, exercise, get rid of tempting food, get support, think positively, become aware of emotional eating, and establish good habits. Duh.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I have been following the 7 Keys for the past month and I can say that the results have been astounding. I have heard before that by cutting out one thing in your diet you will lose weight but i never truly believed, probably because i would cut out one thing and add something else just as bad. with the keys i learned in Dr. Phils The Ultimate Weight Solution i found the answers i needed to not want to find a substitute. i began to understand that i was not only hurting myself- something i had not given a lot of thought to- and i began to realize that many of my habits were there because i rationalized them in my mind. both of these realizations came from reading Dr. Phils book and truly accepting the lessons he teaches. the Ultimate Weight Solution is not a diet book even though i have lost weight (about 12 pounds so far..), it is book about behavior and how you change your behavior to support a healthier lifestyle. i am very happy with the results with my weight as well as the results in my home and in my mind. i feel much better about myself as a person and i owe Dr. Phil a big thank you for all that he has done. I think the book should be read by everyone because it is so supportive of a healthy lifestyle, which people in America seem to be lacking. I know that the book helped me and it can help you too.

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I finished Dr. Phils book the other day. First of all, why is he giving weight loss advice when he is overweight. I know he is tall, but doesnt he weigh like 240-250 pounds. Second, there is no action plan in this book. You just have to keep filling in these sentences which, quite frankly, look a lot like those in a book called Flip the Switch. On March 2nd of this year, I bought Flip The Switch by Jim Karas. I saw him on Good Morning America as he helped Diane Sawyer lose over 25 pounds. It is the BEST weight loss book I have every read. Many times, I felt he was talking right to me. It is so simple and so smart. Well, as of today, I am down over 38 pounds. I eat according to his food plan, which by the way, does not eliminate a single food group. I exercise 3 times a week for about 30 minutes and my body has totally changed. This plan works and I have my sister and best friend following the program and they, too, have lost 24 and 28 pounds respectively. Please, please, if you are reading this post, order Flip The Switch and leave Dr. Phil to areas that he has more expertise and more personal success.

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | Interesting reading the comments written so far. I have started reading the book, and the skeptic that I am (tried dieting for more than 15 years with no permanent success), found halfway through Chapter 2 the core reason why Ive been unsuccessful to date. (Im halfway through the book as of Saturday September 13) It was an event/issue that Id discussed with my parents and close friends, but never made the connection to my emotional reasons for overeating and consuming poor quality choices. Im an educated woman -- graduate degrees and all. Others out there would say see, it didnt tell you anything you didnt already know. True, but when one has a seemingly complex and unsolvable problem, simple truths can set you free. All my schooling did NOT prepare me for the events that triggered a 25-year weight gain odyssey. Today I really dug into my issue and have come away realizing I do have the power and the ability to drop the weight and get my disease state back into healthy state. To those of you who say that other diet plans helped you get to where you are -- FANTASTIC. I dont need another diet plan -- I have tried so many it is pathetic. I needed to see/hear/read some key information that helped me throw away my comfort food, and deal with whats real. Good luck to everybody, and to Dr. Phil. He may not have the precise answer to the predicament of all overweight Americans, but neither does Jim Karas, Robert Atkins, Bob Greene, Covert Bailey, nor all the others on the bookshelves. Seek and ye shall find, I say.

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I have read many diet books and been on many diets. I believe that I can speak with some authority on the topic of dieting advice and I say what Dr. Phil has done here is remarkable. From the first chapter I felt moved emotionally. A few chapters in the reader is asked to begin writing about themselves. I set the book down for several weeks because I knew that if I moved forward there would be no going back. I would not be able to pretend that I would take care of my weight at some nebulous point in the future. I would either have to deal with my weight or completely accept that I would always be fat. If you have never struggled with weight then I doubt you can understand how terrifying that was for me. I was afraid to make that emotional commitment to a course I did not know if I would be successful at. You see, as long as I hadnt really attempted to get fit I could always cling to the hope that I might someday. Well I picked that book back up and I finished it and it was remarkable and life changing. I can think of no better way to review the book than to tell you of my experiences after reading it. From my earliest childhood it was an accepted fact that I was overweight, my parents said so as did my siblings and most of the neighborhood. The larger I became in life the more I fit my own self image of myself as a fat person. I refused to be in pictures from early childhood and at one point went through all of the family pictures and cut up or burned all my photos. After I finished the book I went to visit my Mom, I had the urge to see myself growing up fat. My intent was to fix in my mind how fat I had always been to give me stronger motivation to change. I had an eye opening discovery ahead of me. What I saw for the first time is that I was not a fat child, I could have stood to lose five or ten pounds throughout my childhood, but only the most pessimistic observer could have described me as fat. To put in another way I had such a strong self image of myself as fat that I didnt match my own image until I weighed well over 300 pounds. When I read the book I weighed 474 lbs., that was almost three months ago.Today I weigh 428 lbs. I work out six days a week with a trainer alternating weights and cardio. I can walk for miles without pain and in fact am planning to spend a lot of my summer hiking in the beautiful wasatch mountains. The reviewers whove said that there is nothing new in this book are missing the point. As far as the diet itself goes of course they are right, the message there is essentially eat right and exercise. What is remarkable and new with this book is that Dr. Phil addresses what is stopping you mentally from changing your life. While this may not be what everyone needs (it certainly was not what I thought I needed) it has changed my life. And you know what I was right, once I turned that next page there was NO going back.

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | As a dietician and part time fitness instructor, I am an admitted weight loss book junkie, constantly trying to find good references for my clients. Ive read them all and when it comes to new ideas, Dr. Phil doesnt offer anything new in this book, and he agreed on the Larry King show last week. His focus is about providing the statistics on obesity while repeating most of what you hear every day on his show. ie. Take responsibility, have a plan, do what works, etc. Although correct, after years of working with overweight individuals, people need more than facts and tough love to get them through this personal and national obsession. ... Although sound, I feel that Dr. Phils book fails to address the internal, spiritual battle we have with our weight, the one that makes us choose between self-love and self-defeat. Lows book does. The nations weight issue will end when we make peace with our bodies and ourselves. Period. Dr. Phil will tell you what you need to know about the facts, but dont we already know the facts

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | After watching the Friday special about Dr. Phils program, my husband wanted me to order this book so he could read it. Since I missed the show, I didnt quite get on the bandwagon. After seeing some of the first few shows, I decided to order the book especially it if would get my husband to read it. (It will be a miracle since he does not read books.) Off my order went to Amazon. In the meantime, I found the CD version locally and bought it to listen to at the gym while I work out. After the first CD, I was interested in hearing what Dr. Phil had to say. I listened to each CD twice. The book arrived and I began reading it. Nope, husband hasnt read it yet since I wont give it to him until I am done. My vote is in favor for Dr. Phil and his method of getting real about the issues of weight loss. This books allows you to recognize where YOU have problems, then puts it in simple terms and methods to change your particular problems and habits. No, this is not an overnight miracle or magic solution, but it is a real concept to utilize in getting your life back and getting the facts to take all the steps to weight loss. This book is giving me some much needed mental support to lose weight. I am participating in a program, but wanted all the support that I could get. This book makes me realize I can do this with the support of my family and friends, and by changing those habits from the past. So instead of downing the book and its principles, read it first, do the worksheets in the book, and see what a difference it can make in your life. Great job, Dr. Phil. Thanks for taking on this issue in a loud voice and getting everyone on-board with your show and website.

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | Dr. Phils new weight loss book is a great way for him to use his pulpit to focus people on the epidemic of obesity. Most of what he advocates is sound, but he needs to understand that a great deal of emotional eating is driven by potent physiological signals and simpy advising his readers to stop eating so much is ridiculous. There are numerous (proven) approaches to controlling these physiological hunger signals - including stress management, cortisol control, blood sugar control, and psychological counseling (that Dr. Phil advocates), but also selecting the right foods, exercise program, and dietary supplements. I teach courses and do research on these very topics at the University of Utah and Dr. Phil could bring a new element of success to his readers by drawing on the wealth of information linking psychology with physiology and biochemistry. Losing weight is a lot harder than just deciding to be thin.

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | Over the past several years weight loss has been the hot topic. There have been more diets than you can possibly imagine. And what do they offer in common Seemingly quick fixes for an age-old problem. But just as there is no free lunch, there is no magic pill either. There is an old problem-solving saying. Lets throw it against the wall and see if it sticks. Most of the diet hype out there today seems to be just that, putting up everything, anything--throwing it against the wall in the hope that it will stick. Well, this one doesnt stick either. This book offers absolutely nothing that is new except the name on the front of the book. Moreover, in my opinion, there is nothing here that will work either. Like so many other weight loss fads, this one will go by the wayside like all of the others. Its time that each of us woke up and smelled the proverbial coffee. Losing weight is not easy and if we are to accomplish it responsibly we need to do three things. get out from in front of the television, start exercising until it hurts and, oh yes, stop eating so much. Douglas McAllister

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | Dr. Phil looks straight into the camera and swears that he is not on the national diet bandwagon. However, despite his protests to the contrary, Dr. Phil is absolutely on that bandwagon with a diet book and associated eating guide, not to mention Dr. Phils Weight Management Supplements and Dr. Phils Shape Up. Complete Nutrition Bars sold at Walgreens. He is capitalizing heavily (no pun intended) on Americas need to wake up to the fact that we are killing ourselves with refined, processed food and lack of exercise. That said - the advice in his book is sound, but not new. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you need to eat sensibly and exercise for the rest of your life (or for however long you wish to maintain a healthy weight).

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I chose this book because I heard about it on Dr. Phils website and through a few different articles about him. I was surprised to know that Dr. Phil was writing a weight book but I never doubted that he could do it- I was just amazed. I was half afraid that it would be another South Beach Diet or Atkins wannabe that would just tell you how to eat and eat and eat...until all you are doing is thinking about food. The Ultimate Weight Solution is not about the food, it is about the person that is in charge of the food- YOU. I was so happy to find someone like Dr. Phil who has the guts to get down and dirty to show you the reasons that you need help, not with choosing certain foods but understanding your emotions and your inner self that you are letting dictate how you think about food. As an avid reader of most of the diet books out there on the market, many claim to be changing you forever but none of them are truly plans that will leave you satisfied forever...they always leave you at the will of their food lists. Most are written by high-end nutritionist that may be able to tell you what you should eat and how but they cant tell you why you keep going back to the same bad habits and bad foods time and time again. You lack will power or you are not following the plan right or you are really stressed and so need the food...you will give yourself any excuse you can and the books seem to accuse you for your ultimate weakness. I dont know how many books or diets I have given up because I felt as though they were accusing me of being weak or worse when I failed. I could not say what was wrong. Two minutes into the Ultimate Weight Solution you know that the person that wrote it was not going to tell you that you were weak or foolish- no he was going to some totally different and show you that sometimes the decisions we make are so ingrained in us that we have to reprogram the way we think. This approach takes away all the second guessing or defeating thoughts about yourself because it shows you that you are the one that ultimately has control and must seize that control. You are the one making your food decisions, you are the one that has to live with yourself everyday and, above all, you are the one that deserves to feel good and have a better life. This doesnt sound like your ordinary diet book, does it Thats because it isnt. The Ultimate Weight Solution is in a class of its own. It is simply the Ultimate Book.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | When asked to review this book by my colleagues, I dove deep into the heart of this book and looked at the content and the clarity for which it delivers to the dieter. The conclusion While the content brings to life the social and mental aspects that we face when dieting, it falls short of the practical advice needed for the real world. Any doctor can come up with a few most likely diagnosis to a problem, but it takes a real healer with real experience to understand what the patient (dieter) is going through in order to provide an effective treatment (weight-loss) plan. Bottom line. more of Dr Phils psycho-babble written for his personal and financial gain. If its an Ultimate Solution, why the shakes and all the supplements that he is coming out with Doesnt the name of this book already suggest that we dont need anything else Grade. D-.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | Given all the publicity (coupled with his own enthusiasm), one would think that Dr. Phillip McGraw was about to release a truly innovative and comprehensively effective plan for fat loss and personal health. Halleluiah. When first picking up the book and reading the title, it became immediately apparent that this was going to be another book about weight-loss, rather than fat-loss. Not a good thing. The process of effective fat loss should include the deliberate protection of lean body mass to achieve long-term success. Weight loss is less much less particular. With the book divided into twelve chapters, its not until the ninth that he dedicates any discussion to exercise. Even then, advice given is shallow and ineffective. There is no serious discussion of the importance of muscle, how its most efficiently developed, nor how its maintained once you get it. The importance of a well-maintained amino acid pool, and glycogen control are topics not even touched upon. The proposed eating plan is excessively simplistic. Obesity is rampant because we havent learned the importance of nutrition and how it defines our bodies. Dont expect to find the answers in this Ultimate plan. In discussing properly sized portions, for example, he first makes reference to the size of ones cupped palm (this is good since it reflects the proportionate size of the individuals body)-but then he continues, or the size of a tennis ball. The tennis ball comparison (a fixed volume) ruins an otherwise reasonable means for determining portions to address body size. When it comes to food, mindlessly grouping them by protein, carbohydrate, or fat (as has been done many, many times before) is overly simplistic. As a single example, while peas and broccoli are both vegetables (and are generally classified as carbohydrates), their nutritional contributions are vastly different. Dr. Phil makes no distinction of the nutritional values offered by cup servings of each. 1.25g protein, 1.90g carbohydrate, 0.16g fat = broccoli 3.75g protein, 9.87g carbohydrate, 0.27g fat = peas Peas have 3x protein, 5x carbohydrate (and even 3x in fiber) that broccoli does. All foods within a particular macronutrient class are not created equal. While it may be important to for readers to understand the social and personal reasons why they let themselves get out of shape, the lack of a quality corrective system makes this Ultimate Weight Loss Solution fall horribly short. Success is in the details-but the details are sadly missing. Dr. Phil, and readers wanting to take serious control of their physical fitness, should get real (Dr. Phils commonly issued down-home advice) and look elsewhere for their Ultimate Solution.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | The bad reviews seem to only be able to say a very few things. Phil is fat, Phil is not qualified or this diet plan does not work. People who have read this book and liked it though seem to have more down to earth commentary in comparison. They talk about the ways in which this book has changed their lives, not about how much they hate someone else. I have been working for a professional counseling service for the past 3 years and I have seen a lot of people in the office with real problems. The people who seem to actually get better and take steps in their life to improve it seem to be the ones that begin the counseling with a more positive attitude. They are the ones that no matter what their problem is they are not mean and seem to try to take an active part in their recovery. Meanness, and calling someone obese fat or whatever else is very mean when the person works so hard to keep their weight down, seems to produce more problems than it solves. We acquired a copy of Phils new book for our office and I have read it cover to cover during my lunch breaks. I think that the Ultimate Weight Solution tries to get people into the positive, no holds barred attitude that gets results when you are counseling. Phil doesnt take no for an answer. Yes, you are going to change your life. Yes, you can change your habits. Yes, you are a good person. I believe that this approach works, maybe not for everyone but it will for the millions out there that read Dr. Phil and watch him or simply listen every once in a while to his advice. Meanness breeds meanness- hope breeds hope. I think that if you are someone who believes deeply in hope and the power of positive thought than you are the right person for this book.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I have read the book through real thoroughly. Now I am reading it a second time to really remember what is says. From the moment Dr Phil says I have to start living a healthier life NOW I started to do so. For over a month now, I - a huge sugar addict and couch potato - have not eaten any sugar and exercised every day. Dr Phil gives the tools to handle every situation that occurs in this process. For example, if I raid my cupboards at night there is nothing there anymore and the impulse goes away. That is programming yourself for success. For the first time in my life I feel that I am in control over what I eat. For the first time in my life I feel how great it is to exercise. I am NOT on a diet. I have changed my lifestyle and I want to live this way my whole life. Dr Phil has managed to help me in a way that an endless number of doctors over the years have not been able to.

Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | I think that based on the numerous one-star reviews I read those checking the postings may be confused. So, as a long-time past student (11 years) whose curriculum has been in medical studies and clinical nutrition, here are a few facts to make it easier on you. 1) Most dieticians I have encountered in my life have neither been thin, nor obese. However, they have been overweight. Well, 9/10. It is a fallacy to believe that just because you know something, you will apply it. I tell you, many cardiologists emphasize the need for any physical activity, yet fall short of carrying out their own advice, just like many MDs are not shying away from alcohol consumption, low fat foods, and smoking, which they all know is wrong. So, saying that Dr. Phil is overweight and that as a result, he should not be writing about weight loss strategies is plain ignorant. He is 64 and weighs 240lbs. Now, he is, indeed, overweight. Someone of his stature based on the dietetic currents 16 from Ross Labs in Columbus Ohio (reference used in clinical nutrition) is considered overweight. 2) The title of the book reads ULTIMATE WEIGHT SOLUTION. THE 7 KEYS TO WEIGHT LOSS FREEDOM. It is NOT passed as a diet book. And though you may read on and see peoples main critique that they have not learned nothing new does not mean that it is bad. We all know we should be eating less. We all know we should be more active. We all know that fat is not great (though necessary to some extent). The real question is to figure out whether we are actually applying that wise wisdom Well, are YOU If not, maybe you just find it hard to do it with your stressful life, your busy occupations, your family responsibilities. And that is where this book comes in, because it hands over strategies for you to incorporate those skills in your life. Now, note also that he does not mean to make you skinny or thin. He wants you to lose weight that you are suffering from, no more, no less. 3) Many claim that he is not an MD. And indeed, hes not. However psychology is the study of how the mind responds to certain stimuli. While an MD (psychiatrist) is focusing on physiological changes, Dr. Phil approaches from a psychosocial front claiming that by changing a few things in life, the emotions that lead you to eat less can be isolated and dealt with step by step. 4) about complaints that there is no weight loss plan, here is a newsflash. That is exactly what has made the USA as fat as it is. Lasting weight loss takes time and dedication. There is no ONE weight loss plan that fits all. Whoever tells you that is a fallacy. You may want to believe it because it is easier to deal with than to look at ones life and feel like a failure. Think about that too. You have to come up with your own needs based on your lifestyle, family life... This being said, I dont deny that with some experience you can come to the same conclusions. However, I think that many people are stuck in a maze not knowing what to believe. This is information you can believe. It is important to eat less and encompass some physical activity. However, for the critic about the lack of physical activity that you may read in other postings, the person should have been a little more in tune with the fact that weight loss is the ultimate goal to prevent further cardiovascular diseases, diabetes diagnoses (type 2) skeletomuscular problems. Muscles weigh a lot. Dr. Phils goal is to lose weight. Once you have got that one down, he tackles the physical activity. Remember, walking 5 times a week for 30 minutes allows you to lose 20 lbs without changing anything else in your diet. Now, I am sure it is not that hard to realize that a lot of people may be wondering where that 30 minute time frame is coming in. And that is where Dr. Phil comes in by showing you the strategies to allow such a routine to take place.
Review of Book The 7 Keys to Weight Loss | | Ive only started reading the first two chapters of this book, and already I find myself considering new possibilities about how I view myself and food... I was very disappointed to read the disparaging comments about this book and its author. I think people who expected to find something new here a) Dont get it. b) Are looking for a magic bullet. c) Just need something to complain about. THERE IS NOTHING NEW ABOUT DIETING. Eat less, move more... its that simple. In fact, if youve ever read the Bible, you know that a few thousand years ago Solomon had already declared that there was nothing new under the sun way back then. Losing weight is all about common sense. Thats what I expected from Dr. Phil which is exactly why I picked up his book in the first place. What Dr. Phil does that many psychologists simply arent good at is take what is common sense and get you to accept it. For some people, like me, it means leading them to the point where it almost seems like it was their idea in the first place. Dr. Phil has a way of doing that for me. This is not a book about a diet, like South Beach or Atkins, where you learn to control food, but never get your mind and heart in order. This book is about changing the way you look at yourself, why you want to lose weight, what you expect to happen when you reach your goal, what are you willing to do to make that happen. Bottom line... Phil cuts the crap about dieting. So, the naysayers are right, there is nothing new here... just the plain honest-to-God truth, and thats exactly what I was looking for.

| Self-improvement guru Phillip McGraw knows youre looking for something that melts fat off like sun melts ice, but, he reminds you, losing weight is not quick and easy and you know it. McGraw, one of Oprahs favorite sidekicks and host of his own television show, promises that you will succeed with his methods, because you will change from the inside out. McGraws 7 Keys are sound--not quick. First, you have to understand and face your personal truth--what you think about yourself and your weight--and replace toxic messages with positive thoughts. Next, step by step, you learn how to counter emotional eating, change your environment, master impulse eating, choose foods, adopt an exercise habit, and assemble a support circle. Each step is clearly explained and personalized with case studies, fill-in charts, and self-tests. His nutrition plan emphasizes foods with high nutritional yields for few calories, and that cannot be eaten quickly (generally because theyre high in fiber), so youre less likely to overeat. McGraw is the author of Life Strategies, Relationship Rescue, and Self Matters. Here he offers his unique, , tell-it-like-it-is, take-no-prisoners style to help you change what you eat, why you eat, where you eat, when you eat, and how you eat, all in an individualized approach thats bound to be effective. Highly recommended. --Joan Price--This text refers to the Hardcover edition.
From Publishers Weekly Host of an eponymous TV show, Dr. Phil (Life Strategies. Relationship Rescue. etc.) here ventures into the world of diet books with a plan thats apt to appeal primarily to desperate chronic dieters. For over three decades, he says, hes counseled patients both morbidly obese and dangerously thin, helping them confront why they set their minds to fail at weight management. He looks carefully, for instance, at why people overeat in response to problems, or why they surround themselves with unhealthy snacks and people. While its refreshing to see a diet book geared toward the psychology behind weight gain (instead of one that faddishly recommends a few specific foods to eat and to avoid), McGraw tends to complicate his advice with unnecessary jargon. For example, instead of asserting that dieters should feel free to reward themselves for working out, he offers a treatise on consequating your exercise behavior using contingency management. What everyone else would call whole foods, McGraw refers dubs high-response cost foods, and touts this as a revolutionary approach to dieting. The books title is also slightly misleading, since each of the 7 keys includes a multitude of internal steps, some of which require lengthy self-audits in order to progress. Readers might have appreciated interviews with McGraws former clients-he says he had an 80-plus percent success rate in the eight years he focused on morbidly obese patients-and a little less psychobabble. That said, with his multitude of fans and his frank tone, this latest volume should sell like whole-wheat hotcakes.
