Weight Loss Kit for Dummies

Weight Loss Kit for Dummies is an overall good starting resource. The book covers a lot of ground. It doesnt get too technical and seems to be pretty update on what is going on. There a lot website references in the book to help learn more. The book covers fad diets, several of the commercial weight loss program like Jenny Craig and how they work, the high protein diet, the high fiber diet, and the high carb diet. There is also a pretty good section on nutrition. I do have to say that after following the advice in this book I am losing weight.

Reviews

This is a great, well-rounded book for straight-forward nutrition, exercise, and weight loss information. Its not a fad diet book, although it contains some objective reviews of those diets as well. I picked up some useful tools, tips, and information that definitely made the book worth the , such as worksheets on how to arrange your diet/shopping list to match recommended daily servings and tips on how to use a scale properly (I was actually doing a few things very wrong). The additional CD-ROM contains various worksheets so you can print them as often as you need. All the worksheets and summarized info guides on the CD-ROM (like printable, portable calorie and measurement charts) is basically what makes this a weight loss kit.

Why four stars

Firstly, throughout the book the author refers to a Chapter 22 that disscusses choosing healthy fast foods. This chapter does not exist in the book, nor is it mentioned in the table of contents.

Secondly, sometimes the explanations get rather scientific and mathematical. Mathematical explanations occurred at length.

Finally, the book didnt deal much with the psychological/emotional and social aspects of weight loss, like the book Complete Idiots Guide to Weight Loss, which contains a lot more discussion of provocative day-by-day, personal and pyschological aspects of weight loss and being heavy. The behavior modification section is similar, but it is very short. Essentially, Idiots Guide is more self-help while Dummies is more general reference. People often have to deal with psychological/emotional aspects in order to be successful at weight loss, and most books mention this. However, if youve already mastered those aspects or have no taste for them, this book is generally a good reference to get a well rounded knowledge of nutrition, exercise, and weight loss options.

Accounting for one out of every twenty consumer-dollars spent in America, the diet industry is booming like never before. There are water diets, low-fat diets, high-fat diets, low-carb diets, high-fiber diets, color-coded diets and fixed-menu diets. There are over-the-counter fat burners and prescription diet pills of every description and, lord knows, no end of gadgets, gimmicks and pseudoscientific mumbo jumbo designed to separate you from your hard-earned cash. So why are so many of us still so... chubby
