2009-01-20 Orlistat of No Help in Fatty Liver DiseaseAccording to Dr. Harrison and colleagues, the so-called meager Orlistat benefits mirror those seen in prior research, which found Orlistat did not increase the weight loss realized with lifestyle modifications alone, said WebPageToday. Because of this, the team revisited its findings, comparing those who weight and found an association between weight loss and liver improvement. In conclusion, while this preliminary study does not demonstrate a weight loss advantage with the use of Orlistat, it does demonstrate that moderate weight loss is associated with significant improvements in the symptoms of FLD, the researchers said, reported Science Daily.
2009-01-19 Portfolio Diet: The Solution To CholesterolIt can be very easy for some people to add nuts to their diet. In fact, it may be harder to not add too MANY nuts. It may also be doable to add more sticky fiber to your diet, also, with a little planning. However, it may be a greater challenge to find soy foods that can be enjoyably substituted for meats you are used to eating. However, if your health depends on it, and you refuse medications, this may be a great thing to try, especially since there are no risks involved with adding these foods to your diet. Just remember that these are foods to be substituted, not added, to the diet. Since calories do also still count, adding extras to your current diet could result in weight gain, leading to new concerns. What if there was a combination of foods that were as effective at lowering LDL cholesterol as prescription drugs Would it be worth adding some new foods to what you eat each day to avoid medication A study about a new diet plan known as the portfolio
2009-01-02 San Fernando Valley Sun - ENERGY EXPRESS- Want To Get Thin in the New Year Read This.I think I know. Oprah has always been a sucker for diets. Its not her fault so much as it is her upbringing and our diet-crazy culture with its unrelenting pressure to be a size four. I remember watching Oprahs TV show back in 1988, when she had just lost her first legendary 67 pounds. She did a genius thing that hour. She rolled out a red wagon filled with 67 pounds of greasy, blubbery fat. It was an amazing visual. Hooray. But then she told us how thismiracle weight loss occurred. It was a liquid fast diet and months of starvation. Oh, no, Oprah. Youremaking a big mistake. I wrote it then, and I repeat it now: Diets dont work. Its the dirty little snake oil secret of the billion-dollar diet industry. Diet-induced weight loss is almost impossible to maintain. 2009-01-11 A New Take on Weight LossPatients are steadily turning to weight loss surgery to help them regain their health and well-being. The weight loss procedures most commonly performed in the United States include gastric bypass and the adjustable gastric band. However, a new procedure is now being offered that combines some of the best aspects of these two operations: vertical sleeve gastrectomy. In this operation, the stomach is shaped into a long, narrow tube that restricts how much a person is able to eat at any given time. The large part of the stomach is removed, decreasing hunger and prolonging satiety after a small meal. www.gantdaily.com - HERSHEY - It may be uncomfortable to think about after holidays currently two-thirds of Americans overweight about five percent actually clinically severely obese New Years resolutions great

2009-02-02 Obesity and the Complications of Diverticulosis (Diverticulitis and Bleeding); Obesity, Weight Loss and Urinary Incontinence MND: Your Daily Dose of Counter-TheoryWhile the significant decline in the number of weekly incontinence episodes reported by the women randomized to diet education classes suggests that there might be a placebo effect, or other factors not directly related to weight loss, involved in the improvements observed in this study, the women who participated in the intensive exercise program, and who lost 8 percent of their initial body weight, experienced a 68 percent In this prospective randomized clinical research study, 338 middle-aged overweight and obese women were randomly assigned to either an intensive 6-month weight loss program (including diet, exercise, and behavior modification) or to a structured weight loss education program. mensnewsdaily.com Health Report: Obesity and the Complications of Diverticulosis (Diverticulitis and Bleeding) Obesity, Weight Loss and - Arthritis bleeding cancer cardiovascular colon diet disease diverticulitis diverticulosis exercise heart incontinence obesity urinary weight loss
2009-01-01 New Year Diet Ads: Is Oprah Credible Any More at Selling Diet Remedies - BusinessWeekI can recall that back in the 1980s Oprahs first endorsement of a diet was Optifast. She lost something like 60 or 70 pounds. She was more gaunt than svelte. Her endorsement, though, created a two-year explosion of business around Optifast that extended to products like Medifast and a host of other liquid protein powder diets that are utterly unsustainable. Sometime after that, when Oprah had gained back the weight, she spoke very little, as I recall, about the failure of the diet. And I believe she said something about not endorsing diet regimens in future. As I followed a link for a story about how diet soda can make people gain weight, I was somewhat surprised to find an ad featuring Oprah Winfreys somewhat slenderized face hawking an Acai berry diet, I thought. huh The. - Marketing blog advertising blog advertising industry news online advertising industry news advertising industry news articles advertising media analysis marketing and advertising advertising
2009-01-31 Researchers Recommend Increased Physical Activity to Maintain, Lose Weight Phoenix Arizona Real Estate Local News and Business DirectoryManore said research suggests that significant weight loss can be obtained with a combination of moderate diet restriction and a more expansive exercise regime that includes more than 250 minutes of exercise per week. Manore said moderate intensity exercise, such as a brisk walk, rather than high-intensity cardio is what was tested on most participants. Another significant change from the 2001 position paper emerged. Manore said researchers previously held to the understanding that a 10 percent reduction in weight would lower health risks. Now, she said the data shows that as little as 3-5 percent loss of weight could yield significant changes in critical area such as high blood pressure, improved glucose tolerance and blood lipids, and other factors that contribute to improvement in health. A national team of researchers from the American College of Sports Medicine has examined the evidence regarding physical exercise guidelines for weight maintenance and concluded that greater amounts of physical activity are needed - and modest weight losses can have significant health benefits.
2009-01-30 Weight Loss Reduces Incontinence In Obese Women, Study ShowsThe study randomly assigned 338 overweight and obese women aged 42 to 64 years with at least 10 episodes of urinary incontinence per week to either an intensive 6-month weight-loss program that included group diet, exercise, and behavioral modification sessions, or to a control group who received weight loss information but no rigorous guidance. All participants received a booklet describing current methods for improving incontinence, including exercises for pelvic floor muscles. Study participants in the weight-loss group lost an average of 17 pounds and reduced the weekly number of incontinence episodes by almost half (47 percent). In comparison, the control group lost an average of 3 pounds per person and had a 28 percent decrease in weekly number of incontinence episodes. The study also found that weight loss was more effective for stress incontinence (involuntary urine loss with coughing, sneezing, straining, or exercise) than urge incontinence (loss of urine associated with a strong urge to void). Behavioral weight-loss programs can be an effective way to reduce urinary incontinence in women who are overweight or obese, according to a new study. - Diet and Weight Loss; Urology; Healthy Aging; Womens Health; Obesity; Fitness
