What happens now, is that this person. s metabolism is suppressed and it becomes even more difficult to lose the excess weight.

But these fad diets do not help you to keep your weight down once you stop using them because you can. t face another prune or fried egg! You will regain all that weight you lost and then you may easily slip into the misery of yo-yo dieting. And that is something you should try to avoid like the plague.

2006-05-02 Enzyme may play role in weight loss

According to the researchers, a certain gene known as CPT1c makes a protein that protects against weight gain caused by a high-fat diet. Mice lacking the gene gained more weight than their littermates carrying normal copies of the gene.

Scientists at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Maryland say by working with genetically engineered mice, they were able to interfere with the brains ability to control an animals response to a high-fat diet.

The Hopkins researchers are hopeful the discovery has broad implications for understanding the genetic underpinnings of obesity and weight management.

Step 2 (day 31-60) 1. How to work out: five minutes aerobic exercise, 10 minutes stretching, one hour weight training, five minutes aerobic exercise and 10 minutes stretching 2. Diet: If you eat something within an hour and a half before or after you work out, you gain weight. Men who want to build their muscles need to make up for lost protein by eating protein supplements or other sources of protein within 30 minutes after a workout, but women dont have to. 3. Caution: You are in the process of building up your muscles. You need to increase the amount of weights and instead reduce the number of sets a little to five sets repeated eight to 10 times for each set. Increasing weights destroys your muscles, which paradoxically leads to bigger muscles as protein compensates for the loss. That is why you need to take more protein.

2006-05-01 Discovery Channel :: News :: Green Coffee Promotes Weight Loss.

Abdul Dulloo and his Swiss team, however, found that green tea only increases metabolism and fat burning by 4. 5 percent. The researchers still suggested that green tea could serve as an aid to weight loss.

Analysis of blood, weight and liver function in the mice revealed that caffeine and the acid alone had little effect. Together, however, the compounds reduced body weight by 35 percent when compared with a control group of mice that consumed no green coffee extract over the 13-day period.

2006-05-01 The dawn of a new woman - INQ7. net

Zulueta was about to resort to liposuction, then decided against it after learning that she might have to undergo another one if and when she got pregnant again. She realized the procedure, as well as fad diets like South Beach, wasn. t a long-term solution for overall weight loss.

Zulueta finds the Marie France approach multi-pronged: It promotes weight loss as it induces inch loss. It also addresses such concerns as bloating, sagging muscles and perennially stubborn cellulite, which, says Torres, is trapped fat.

2006-04-30 Portsmouth Herald Health News: Eat less, live longer

In addition to dealing with hunger, people on restricted diets, especially those who cut calories 30 percent to 40 percent, may experience a range of often unwanted side effects. Those include low blood pressure, reduced sex drive, menstrual irregularities, infertility, bone thinning, cold sensitivity, loss of strength, slower wound healing and various psychological conditions, according to a recent review article in the journal Mechanisms of Ageing and Development.

Caloric restriction is different from an eating disorder such as anorexia, a psychological disorder that involves obsession with starvation and weight loss that can be fatal. While calorie restriction involves weight loss, it is done with the goal of optimizing nutrition and longevity.

2006-04-30 Portsmouth Herald Health News: Is stress driving you to eat.

Researchers have identified three key aspects of eating behavior - motivation, anticipation, and intake. In other words, how much does the animal (or person) want the food, how excited are they ahead of time about eating the food, and how much was eaten. When animals or people are deprived of food, such as on a strict weight loss diet, the desire for food can overcome the goal for weight loss. Likewise, when the food offered is perceived as very appealing, it is often consumed despite other goals. From the previously mentioned studies, it appears that combinations of these are even more likely to prompt overeating.

CortisSlim, CortiDrene, and CortiSol are another category of supplements being promoted as the answer to combat our high stress levels. Our body releases cortisol in response to high stress, which may contribute to our weight dilemma. The supplements are geared to reduce our cortisol levels, and enable our body to sacrifice fat more willingly. Simple. The problem with that principle though, is that cortisol is part of our bodys defense system. Cortisol levels increase in response to stress which allows our body to respond appropriately.

2006-04-29 Euro panel supports Sanofi weight loss pill Acomplia

The Euroean Medicines Agency recommended use of Acomplia as an adjunct to diet and exercise for obese people and overweight people with associated risk factors such as diabetes.

In January, the US Food and Drug Administration sent an "approvable letter" regarding Acomplia to Sanofi-Aventis. But it did not mean that marketing the weight pill in the United States will automatically get approved by the agency.

The weight loss pill Acomplia, also known as rimonabant, works against obesity by blocking a pleasure center. People on the pill eat less because they feel less pleasure associated with eating.
