2008-06-09 More Incredible Feel Good Success Stories About Healthy Low-Carb LivingWOWSERS. I love the enthusiastic response you have for livin la vida low-carb and can only tell you to keep doing what youre doing. The difference between your low-fat triglyceride numbers and your low-carb ones is astonishing. Not surprising, though, since you eat so many carbohydrates on a low-fat diet. We should pay more attention to triglycerides when we talk about heart health, but doctors usually only give it a cursory glance compared to the LDL and total cholesterol which is their be-all, end-all for determining your cardiovascular risk. Puhleez. Give me low-carb any day of the week. And I wouldnt worry about "too low" triglycerides. Mine were once as low as 43, but when theyre below 100 it shows you are indeed doing low-carb the right way. YOU GO GIRL with your bad self. :D www.commonvoice.com
2008-02-22 The "Fat-Free Fallacy:" Is It Obesitys Great Enabler - Diabetes HealthThe same argument can be applied to recommendations for low fat diets. Recommendations for low fact diets imply that being low in fat such diets will not contribute to the accumulation of excess body fat. While this may true be indirectly for carbohydrate it is not true in the ultimate outcome which is really what matters. A low fat diet that invariably must be associated with a diet high carbohydrates can and will result in the conversion of excess sugars derived from carbohydrates to body fat. This is an indisputable scientific fact that should be disclosed with any recommendation to consume a diet low in fat. The absence of such disclosure implies that low fat foods can be eaten with impunity and without incurring risk of accumulating excess body fat. As with carbohydrates, it can be argued that in the absence of such Diabetes Health - Newsrooms: Professionals. 2008-12-13 Low-Carb Lifestyle Examiner: New weight loss research: sugar addictive, low-carb memory loss, protein burns fat, and money talksAnother study from a group of psychologists out of Tufts University claims that people on a carbohydrate-restricted diet performed poorly on memory-based exercises compared to those on a high-carb, calorie-restricted diet. A total of 19 women were placed on a voluntary basis on a low-carb or low-calorie, macronutrient balanced diet. Nine women went on the low-carb diet and 10 chose the low-calorie one (is it just me or does that sample size seem just a wee bit small). Five cognitive memory tests were given to the study participants, including before they began the diets, two during the first week, and then two more in the second and third week of the diet which, ironically, included the low-carb group ADDING BACK IN CARBOHYDRATES TO THEIR DIET. 2008-06-18 New Weight Loss Diet Recommends High-carb And Protein Big BreakfastThe first half of the eight-month study focused on weight loss, and the last four months on weight maintenance. At four months, the women on the strict low-carb diet dropped an average of about 28 pounds, and the women on the big-breakfast diet lost nearly 23 pounds on average, which according to Jakubowicz was not significantly different. But at 8 months, the low-carb dieters regained an average of 18 pounds, while the big-breakfast group continued to lose weight, shedding another 16. 5 pounds. Those on the new diet lost more than 21 percent of their body weight, compared with just 4. 5 percent for the low-carb group. Furthermore, the study found that women who ate a big breakfast reported feeling less hungry, especially before lunch, and having fewer cravings for carbs than the other women did. Researchers have found a possible way to overcome the common problem of dieters eventually abandoning their diet and regaining the weight they lost. Eat a big breakfast packed with carbohydrates and protein, then follow a low-carb, low-calorie diet the rest of the day, the authors of a new study recommend. Only five percent of carbohydrate-restrictive diets are successful after two years, one of
2008-09-19 Low-Carb Examiner: Kraft says South Beach not just a diet, its all about living healthyOne of the most common themes I talk with people about is how you can and rsquo;t just go on a low-carb and ldquo;diet, and rdquo; but that you must make it your permanent and healthy lifestyle change. That and rsquo;s why I use the phrase livin and rsquo; la vida low-carb instead of and ldquo;low-carb diet and rdquo; to describe this way of eating for me. It and rsquo;s all about the and ldquo;living and rdquo; and the makers of the bestselling South Beach line of products are finally embracing this concept in their marketing. Kraft Foods, manufacturer of the popular low-carb food line prominently using the name of Dr. Arthur Agatsons famous diet plan, has changed the name from Kraft says South Beach not just a diet, its all about living healthy by local Low-Carb Examiner expert, Jimmy Moore. - Low-Carb Examiner Kraft says South Beach not just a diet its all about living healthy Jimmy Moore
2008-02-23 Is Ketosis Necessary On A Low-Carb Diet Lets Ask The Experts. In most medical terminology, "osis" implies "the abnormal condition of"--like onychomycosis means "abnormal nail fungus," halitosis means "bad breath. " Perhaps this is one reason why people unfamiliar with low carb approaches jump to the conclusion that "ketosis" is harmful. If you have no insulin in your body, as in Type 1 diabetes, a potentially life-threatening condition called diabetic "ketoacidosis" can occur. My Duke colleague Will Yancy published a paper looking at the pH in the blood of people on two diets (low-carb vs. low-fat) and did not find low blood pH ("acidosis"), but because the blood bicarbonate was lowered below the normal range we called it a "compensated metabolic acidosis. " Another published study by Brehm showed the average level www.commonvoice.com
2008-05-17 Refined Carbohysrates, High Glycemic Foods Negatively Impact HealthUnfortunately, a low glycemic diet is often difficult to maintain. Foods like baked goods, potatoes, and pasta have become such a part of the Western diet that many people find them impossible to give up. While it is not necessary to completely eliminate such foods from your diet, it is important to limit their consumption. Increasing your fiber intake via high-fiber foods and supplements is also important. There are also supplements called and ldquo;carb blockers and rdquo; that work by inhibiting the digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates, preventing some of them from being absorbed. Carb blockers, most notably phaseolamin, or Phase 2 and reg;, can lessen the impact of high glycemic foods on the body, and offer you the possibility of a less restricted diet while on a weight-loss program. www.stopagingnow.com The type of calories consumed is nearly as important as total caloric intake. 2008-01-20 Irene Rubaum-Keller: Diets Work - Living on The Huffington PostThank you Ms. Keller for sane and down to earth advice. I knew people on the Atkins. a very bad tempered bunch (no carbs=no seratonin=bad attitude). Alot of these folks would do the Atkins without getting off their tushes to excersize. ALL of them have not kept off the weight, and some of them have even gained when Atkins was stopped. It really does make a difference eating fresh fruit, veggies, whole grains (good carbs), unsaturated oils, nuts, lean meats in combination with excersize, and limited calories (not starvation). I have practiced this for a few years and am a very healthy and fit 43 year old woman. Piece of cake (Ha. ). I refuse to allow any diet program to eradicate my love of delicious and diverse sources of nutrition. Our society is becoming absolutely insane from their multi-million dollar snake oil products. 2008-01-11 Research Showing Theres No Debate About The Fate Of Low-Carb In 2008Researchers from the Oxford, England-based Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism wanted to compare the effects of a low-carb diet on the body weight, HbA1c levels, ketones and cholesterol levels in both diabetics and non-diabetics to see if there would be a difference over a three-month period. A total of 13 Type 2 diabetics controlling their disease with disease or metformin as well as 13 non-diabetics were placed on either a low-carb diet (with 40g or less carbohydrates daily) or a "healthy-eating diet" as prescribed by the ADA-equivalent group in the UK (basically a moderate-to-high-carb, low-fat diet). www.commonvoice.com
