78 percent low-carb success rate in losing weight

A recent nationwide study on low-carb dieters has concluded that 78pct. of people who try low-carb diets lose weight. Furthermore, the study notes that most keep the weight off. The research was conducted by Opinion Dynamics Corporation, and can be viewed here. Below are some other interesting findings.

The percentage of the public currently on a low-carb diet has remained remarkably stable over the past six months, at 12pct. of US adults. This figure has neither increased nor decreased significantly since December, 2004.

The median amount of weight lost on low-carb diets is approximately 16 pounds. 46pct. say they lost less than 16 pounds, while 50pct. say they lost more than that amount.

People who say they follow a low-carb diet rarely do so all of the time, particularly when eating in restaurants.

LowCarb Energy responds to Atkins naysayers

LowCarb Energy magazine has responded to the recent news that Atkins Nutritionals has filed Chapter 11.

The low-carb revolution, as Dr. Atkins called it, is not -- and never was -- about low-carb products, says Vanessa Sands, editor-in-chief of the internationally distributed magazine from Coincide Publishing. Dr. Atkins first debuted his eating plan in 1972 -- when there wasnt a single processed low-carb product in sight. Dr. Atkins recognized the value of more natural foods in later editions of his books, and wrote in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, It is important that you eat primarily unprocessed foods.

Read LowCarb Energys complete statement after the jump.

Low-carb lifestyle shows staying power

According to two new studies, low-carb dieting shows no signs of disappearing. Opinion Dynamics Corporation (ODC), a market research firm that specializes in the food service industry, reports that the number of Americans on a low-carb diet has remained stable at 11pct. of the U.S. adult population (24 million adults).

While the number of current low-carb dieters has remained stable, however, the percentage of people who say they are merely making an effort to restrict their carbs has dropped substantially in the past few months, according to the ODC study. This group, called low-carb lifestyle consumers, has decreased from 32pct. in April to 29pct. in the current study.
