Book Low Carb Recipes Fast and Easy

Review of Book Low Carb Recipes Fast and Easy

Following Tony Perrones 50-30-20 plan, and wanted some low-carb recipes. Seems like theres a very unhealthy amount of fat in most of these recipes. Most of the entrees have fat from the 30s all the way up to 69 grams of fat. Were eating 50pct. protein, 30pct. carb, and 20pct. fat, which is a much more normal way of eating. We feel wonderful and are losing body fat in a healthy way. Although Tony Perrone has 10 plans based on questionnaires, including a short-term insulin buster diet that involves all fat and protein, we prefer a plan we can live with the rest of our life. We dont have to worry about ketones. We live normally. There is no way I would make meals like these, loaded with all this fat. Im returning this book.

I like the cookbook and though others come with more, this one is a nice basic to add to your low carb collection.

Low Carb Recipes...Fast and Easy by Belinda Schweinhart

It is my PLEASURE to review Belinda Schweinharts Low Carb
Recipes..Fast and Easy.

Belinda is a low carb success story herself, losing 40 pounds in
six months and maintaining that weight loss since 1998. In addition to being a recipe developer, Belinda ran a restaurant for six years and served her delectable culinary creations to packed houses every day. She knows the importance of FAST, EASY and GREAT tasting meals.

Belinda was a pioneer in developing low carb cookbooks back in
1999. She was low carb, when low carb wasnt cool.

In February of 2003, Belinda released her third edition of Low
Carb Recipes...Fast and Easy adding much, MUCH more than just
mouthwatering, fast and easy low carb recipes.

Low Carb Recipes...Fast and Easy is a delightful addition to my
low carb cookbook collection. Although, I must admit, in the two
weeks Ive been testing recipes for this review, Ive been marking up my copy. Yes marking, big RED smiley faces, each time my non low carb family would tell me Thats a KEEPER..

Its very important to me as a busy career mom, to not only have
just FAST, SIMPLE, scrumptious meals. But to NOT be a short order
cook. What I eat in my low carb lifestyle, I need my family to eat and love also. Belindas recipes MORE than fill the bill for my family and me.

Low Carb Recipes..Fast and Easy is packed with over 120 recipes
in categories like appetizers, snacks, breads, breakfast dishes,
desserts, entrees, salads, sauces, soups, and vegetables. The front and back covers are laminated for an easy wipe off.

Thats not ALL. Belindas new revision also includes 16 pages of
RESOURCES. Resource questions, answered in her cookbook, include
things like what brand names are low carb friendly and carb counts on these products, carb counts for assorted flours, spices and MORE.

She doesnt stop there. She added five pages of frequently asked
QUESTIONS. Loads of what is and how do I do this questions and answers at your fingertips.

I access this cookbook when Im NOT cooking.

Whether youre a busy career person, single, cooking challenged,
not into cooking long complicated recipes, or wanting scrumptious low carb options for your non low carb family, this cookbook will be an ASSET to YOU. There is no reason to substitute less than gratifying food for time or ease in preparation any more.

Review of Book Low Carb Recipes Fast and Easy

This low carb cookbook is a lifesaver for someone on the go. I am a wife, full-time admin. assistant, and a part-time college student. The recipes allowed us to stay on our diet and still do everything else life requires. For Easter dinner, I prepared several dishes and received many compliments, even from the non-low carb people. It offers many helpful tips and useful information on carb counts. There are enough recipes that you can have a variety and not grow tired of them. These recipes ARE delicious, and they help make cooking and baking less of a chore and more of an enjoyment.

This book is great for whipping up something quickly. I especially like the desserts. There are also helpful pages on low-carb items that can be found in any grocery store, as well as resources for finding more obscure ingredients, such as Splenda (sugar substitute). I found the chart showing various sugar substitute equivalents particularly helpful.

It was my mistake. I really admit that. When I read no sugar I made the mistake of actually thinking no sugar. I forgot about the use of artificial sweeteners, which, of course, I cannot tolerate. So many of these recipes will not work for me. I also question the use of mixes in some of the recipes as many of these contain MSG, which is also not good for a person following a low-carb plan. Nevertheless I applaud Ms. Schweinharts efforts.

Review of Book Low Carb Recipes Fast and Easy

Belinda is a great chef. She has done the almost impossible--developed recipes without flour and sugar that taste like the real things. Banana Nut Snack Cake that tastes like it is rich with golden, ripe bananas. Top it off with creamy, decadent, banana Frosting, and its to die for. Peanut Butter Squares Move over Reeses. Great tasting desserts are hard to come by--but you wont be wishing for them if you buy this book, and I havent even mentioned the great appetizers, breads, soups, salads, veggies, breakfast dishes, and entrees. Youve got to have it.

This book contains real, great tasting, easy recipes. They are all low carb, no sugar, no flour recipes suitable for anyone following the Atkins diet, the Protein Power Plan, the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, the Zone and the Neanderthin diet as well as those needing no sugar recipes for diabetic diets. When was the last time you ate a really good cookie without feeling guilty Try the peanut butter cookie on page 150.

I know there are hundreds, if not thousands, of low carb recipes on the Internet. Ive personally tried many of them. The problem Ive found is that 1) they dont taste very good and Im not wasting any of my carbs on something that is marginal, 2) the carb counts frequently arent right and 3) they are too complicated.

(Note. All carb counts used in this cookbook have been obtained from the USDA Internet data base. See page 11 for address.)

I owned and operated a restaurant for six years to a daily packed house crowd and am well aware of pleasing the customer, repeatability and ease of a recipe, the need to be specific with ingredient brands and just plain eye appeal. I spent a lot of time doing up front developing on a recipe so it could be prepared by anyone from the instructions on the wall.

My best advise for anyone wanting to follow a low carb diet is to get the book of the plan you are going to follow and read the book -- all of it. There are a lot of self-proclaimed experts due to their experiences, but nothing can replace getting the facts from the real experts. Again, read the books.

About the Authors
Belinda Schweinhart started the Atkins diet in January, 1998, after trying every other diet available. None worked, at least not for very long. She knew diabetes and low blood sugar were prevalent in her family. After 6 months, she had lost 40 pounds, and more importantly, gone from size XXL to size MEDIUM. Cholesterol went from 251 (with HDL of 54 -- test didnt show other numbers, darn it.), to 234 (with HDL of 61, LDL of 140 and tryglycerides of 165) after only six months and had cholesterol of 225 (with HDL of 64, LDL of 126 and tryglycerides of 174) after one year. It has been 15 months and she has continued to keep the weight off and still feels great on the low carb diet.

Chaddie Letson found her way to the low carb way of thinking because of her husbands onset of adult diabetes. Her husbands doctor suggested that he consider the low carb diet. After 3 months on the diet, he lost 40 pounds, lowered his bad cholesterol (LDL) by 30 points and increased his good cholesterol (HDL) by 20 points. But the most remarkable result was that he was able to go off his diabetes medicine . . . his blood sugar went from 356 to 146.

We love this way of eating. We can no longer call this a diet.
