2006-10-11 Technology News: Health: Mediterranean Diet May Lower Alzheimers Risk

Typically, the diet consists of high amounts of fruits, vegetables, cereals and fish, mild to moderate levels of alcohol, and a low intake of red meat and dairy products.

Researchers have determined that a Mediterranean diet rich in fruit, vegetables and olive oil but low in red meat can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimers disease. The diet is also said to protect against cancers, obesity, and diabetes, and can reduce heart disease risk factors.

The team found that diets closely following the Mediterranean model were associated with a significantly lower risk of Alzheimers disease. For each additional unit on the diet score, the Alzheimers risk decreased by between 19 and 24 percent.

Thanks to the deregulation of the dietary supplement industry in 1994, health products are classified as foods, not drugs, and arent subjected to the rigorous testing that drugs undergo before they hit the market.

A lot of these college guys are great athletes and dont really need anything else to help," Burch said. "Just keep working hard in the weight room and keep a good diet, and those kids have what it takes to succeed. "

2006-10-09 Let them eat white bread-it really IS healthy the Daily Mail

This is not meant to alarm parents whose children eat mainly wholemeal products, provided they have a well-balanced diet with full-cream products such as yoghurt and milk, plenty of vegetables and fruits etc, they should be fine.

My wife has put us on a strict no-white-flour diet. We dont have white bread any more, only brown. The same goes for rolls, rice, and pasta. She says theres not enough fibre in white flour. Im finding this really hard going, so do the children (daughter, 11; sons, eight and six). Is white really so bad Ed Buckley, Herts.

CHICAGO, Oct 9 (Reuters) - A so-called Mediterranean diet centered on fruits, vegetables, olive oil and a paucity of red meat and dairy products may lower the risk of Alzheimers disease, for reasons that are unclear, researchers said on Monday.

After taking into account other possible risk factors for the disease such as age and how fat or thin the test subjects were, researchers found that those in the top third in terms of how their diets matched the Mediterranean model had 68 percent lower odds of having Alzheimers disease than those in the bottom one-third. Those in the middle third had 53 percent lower odds.

2006-10-09 Problems With Availability Time

You can place an expert in the field to answer the questions of your website visitors in appointed hours. For example: If you are a website for diet products, you can put expert in nutrition available 2-3 hours per day at stated hours on the website. That would lead to increasing the amount of your website visitors, as well as your credibility and reputation.

Put your current employees to serve online customers while their working time interchangeably. They already know everything about your products and the company and probably dont need additional training. For example: If you have a store, you can setup your shop assistants as receptionists on your website. They can split the support time into smaller intervals and provide support rotating.
