Wyeths latest brainchild, Lybrel, has been approved and will be available in July. Taken 365 days a year, the low-dose pill could put an end to your period once and for all. But are the side effects worth it Theres so much debate about continual oral contraceptives. Its partly because pharmaceutical companies originally designed pill packs to mimic a womens cycle: 21 days on the pill, 7 days off, so your period could begin. As a result, women today are used to getting a monthly cycle. Thing is, this "period" is not really a natural period because theres no ovulation or egg involved; its basically just induced vaginal bleeding because youve withdrawn "the pill" for seven days. This is why some OB/GYN docs think its fine to take continuous hormonal contraception, while others insist that a monthly period is important

While the cautionary-marketing approach may not trigger stampedes to the counter, analysts say the drugs fate hinges on the pharmaceutical giants ability to convince people that diet pills arent a magic bullet.

GlaxoSmithKline yesterday opened an educational exhibit in New York City to prepare the country for alli, the first over-the-counter diet pill approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Peoples hopes are ridiculously high when it comes to diet pills. That leads to disappointment and bad word-of-mouth," said Steven Brozak, an analyst with WBB Securities.

First, the educational promotions are being forthright with information, such as the facts that there is no "magic" diet pill, and that people who use alli must also make a concerted effort to eat a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet, and exercise regularly.

However, first they are debuting the "diet pill" with an exhibit in New York City to educate the public about their product, which is being touted as a safe and effective drug that won FDA approval in February.

I tried this pill when it was prescription when a friend gave me one to try. The negative side effects are quite true. After one ruined pair of pants, you will decide that dieting or being overweight is much easier. I cant believe that this pill is still around. I like how they recommend limiting meals taken with this pill to 15g of fat. If you did that without the pill youd be on the road to weight loss.
