2012-05-10 Where is the U. S. headed if 42 pct. of us are obese by 2030 Cafferty File BlogsJack, the obesity prediction is just another symptom of a far more complex problem. But I know a sure fire way to combat this one. Eliminate all the corn subsidies, and slap a 100 pct. sir tax on high fructose corn syrup. We are allowing corporate farms to dictate our health, by allowing them to sell pure toxin as a replacement for natural sugars. I posse a challenge to everyone who reads this, try to eliminate high fructose corn syrup from your diet, and see how easy it is, over 70 pct. of the product sold in the super market will list HFCS as one of its first, therefore highest content ingredients. My wife and I have actively pursued this policy since the last of our children has left the house, and I am happy to report that we are have successfully eliminated over 95 pct. of our consumption of this toxin. The results of this has been that FROM CNNs Jack Cafferty: A dramatic warning about just how fat Americans are getting: By 2030, 42 pct. of people in the United States will be obese. Yes, 42 pct. 2012-05-07 Your diet and Parkinsons diseaseIn addition, foods high in vitamin B6 such as tuna, chicken, turkey, bell peppers, cashew nuts and chickpeas may also be helpful for prevention of the disease. Scientists have discovered that people with the highest intakes of vitamin B6 from their diet were significantly less likely to suffer from the disease than those with lower intakes. (Br. J. Nutr. , 2010). Protection could also be gained from minerals in the diet. Another study showed that higher intakes of iron, magnesium and zinc were associated with a reduced risk of the disease in a study of 600 people. (J. Neurol. Sci. , 2011). Foods rich in minerals such as Brazil nuts, spinach, brown rice, raisins, avocado, adzuki beans, sesame seeds, oats, chickpeas and lentils were all found to be beneficial.
2012-05-05 5 Healthy Eating MythsHttp:// //articles/7883/photo. jpg Healthy eating is about more than removing a certain food from your diet. The overall composition of a diet is whats important. You may skip your regular starbucks drink or that appetizer before dinner in an attempt to be health conscious, but if you replace the sugar, carbs, and calories with some other equally terrible food or beverage at a different point in the day, youre no better off. I dont necessarily agree with your first two points, but your statements about grains and fats are spot-on. You get a mic for that. Diets rich in grains (and thus gluten) are hard on the body because higher levels of insulin are required to deliver the gluten to cells, which results in insulin-resistance, leading to diabetes in many cases. Im thinking about writing an article about a guy who overcame his four pills and four insulin shots a day by eating a very low-carb diet - in 30 days. Fats, especially from animal sources, are the bodys favorite sources both for energy, and if its sourced from balanced, grass-fed meats, a healthy ration of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. 2012-04-27 First-time post-cancer guidelines unveiled BlogsAnd just like these recommendations, the China Study is based on junk science. Oh hey to prevent and recover from cancer eat the same junk we recommend everyone eats on the "Food Plate". Its unfortunate that so many people have an inherent belief that because a food comes from an animal source then its going to be bad for you. Or that just "fat" in general is bad for you. Or that being a vegan = healthy, because it does not. Anyone with cancer or who has a friend or family with cancer should research a "ketogenic diet" if you want to find something that may actually be beneficial to their condition. Its been used for the past century to successively treat epilepsy and shows a lot of promise for treating cancer and other diseases as well. Cancer survivors often talk about first reactions when their doctors first used the word "cancer" during a diagnosis. "Its almost like the word was in another language that I didnt understand," a friend of mine said once. - Cancer ann j. curley - cnn medical assignment manager
2012-04-19 Do We Need Better Advice About Eating Well I Vote Yes. - Marion Nestle - Health - The AtlanticPeople are bombarded with conflicting advice, much of it from sources with a vested interest in selling particular foods, supplements or diet plans. Nutrition studies tend to focus on single nutrients, making their results difficult to apply to real diets. No wonder people have a hard time knowing what or whom to believe. So they make foods available everywhere -- even in drug, book and clothing stores -- and in very large portions. Few people can resist eating tasty food when its right in front of them. Large portions alone explain rising rates of obesity: they encourage people to eat more calories but to underestimate what they have eaten. While we get a lot of advice about what to eat, what people need to hear is actually quite simple. - The Atlantic The Atlantic Magazine Atlantic news opinion analysis commentary Health news and analysis on The Atlantic
2012-04-15 Ask Anna: Family moves to more balanced diet and raquo; Redding Record SearchlightWhat I learned was not only is it important to eat healthy food, but its also very important to eat a well-balanced (acidic food vs. alkaline foods) diet. After doing a bit of research I discovered that too much of what was in my familys diet were acidic foods. Its no wonder my daughter had this terrible rash and my husband was suffering with canker sores. Cost also was an issue for me. Ive always been convinced that eating healthy would cost a small fortune, but I was wrong. I grocery shop at the beginning of every pay period and I pay with cash, so when I run out thats it for those two weeks. I was shocked that after doing my shopping for the beginning of April that I still had some cash left over. That means that eating healthier didnt cost us any extra. This continues to be a great learning experience for me. We arent going to become a vegan or vegetarian family and Im not going to put us on a strict diet, but I am going to use the information that I learned through this experience to feed my family healthier and more well-balanced meals. Ask Anna columnist Anna Moseley talks about her familys shift to a more balanced diet. She shares some of the new recipes theyve been trying.
